Hi ya folks! Happy Tuesday. It's crazy how time flies by when traveling around with your family. Sometimes it seems like the summer can be more hectic than the school year. So, to describe Singapore in a few words... it's one huge humid island city which is made for shopping. It feels like the only things to do in Singapore is walk around and spend money. I've recently become more and more interested in hiking and just walking around parks and am seeing myself less and less attracted to the city and consumer-based activities like shopping. So, this makes Singapore a nice place to visit but I would never see myself living here. On the plus side, I did love Singapore's parks which are specifically dedicated to sustainability, beautifying the country, and biodiversity research. (More of that to come soon).

So now for the giveaway...

Today I am giving away the beautiful ecofriendly earring set from today's OOTD! I have one to keep and one to give away! This earring set is from Alora. Co-owner Jameela first approached me last year, interested in hosting a giveaway for you all. After exchanging a bunch of emails back and forth with Jameela, I (of course) liked that the materials they use are recycled or upcycled. For example, the earring I picked out are made from upcycled brass and are silver plated. Alora also has other jewelry that is made from upcycled glass sourced from Ghana. Over email, Jameela shared a bit about their sourcing process,
"The women we work with for the recycled glass beads are in Ghana. We work directly with them when we buy colours and styles. It is actually my sister who buys from them. My family is originally from Ghana so it makes it easy for us. Basically the bead makes are independent. As for the brass pendants we design them and they are all made from recycled brass. My mother and I make the jewelry in our home in Calgary, Canada. :) "
Aside from the environmentally friendly aspect, I really like how it's a family business which works not only with their immediate family but their communities, by sourcing from their home country (Ghana) and their new home country (Canada). Jameela and her mom work on the pieces for their online store from their home workshop in Alberta, Canada, pictured below. It's so great to see mother-daughter teams, it reminds me of the relationship I have with my mom. :)
