A Curious Desire

-------------------------Listen as you scroll down!---------------------------

Bomber | Dry Goods        Scarf | Maurices      Necklace | Urban Outfitters
Slip | Free People       Sweater Tights | Older than dinosaurs (I can't remember)      Wedge Boots | Gap

So sick of imposed vanity.  You know those times when your happy expression seems to be turned into a demand? Fashion is my artistic expression.  I am not obsessed with fashion, but it is one outlet where I enjoy self expression because I find joy in colors, shapes and textures, like most artistic folk.  But there was a point, recently, when I was receiving so many comments on my apparel that I felt like people were missing the most important thing for me to wear, Christ.  If you were to ask me, I would tell you that I consider myself more "artsy patartsy" than fashionable.

Did my outfit shout louder than the person inside?

 I did not like this at all.  So, like I have done in the past, I am going for a fashion purge. I will play my outfits down, maybe artistic journal more, and avoid make up, which I don't typically wear anyways.  I am ready for people to once again be able to experience Christine when they are with her.  Another thing I realized this week is that I comment on people's outward appearance a lot, maybe even too much for their own good.  Seeing people makes me so happy, I find people so beautiful and I am always curious to see how people's personalities are on display through what they wear.  I am at awe at how different shapes and aspects bring me delight because they are such wonderfully made!

I think that it is easy to interpret this as superficial, but really, it is me realizing the wonder and awe that God has created everything on our planet in!  Everything is so beautiful.  When I point the little things out to people, I have found that many people brush it off because they think I am wasting my time and their time.  Thank you Lord for this life and the beauty in it- this is my worship cry.  When people stop and see the beauty right in front of them, it will help them get through the day.  So if you have a friend that tends to be at awe at all the little things in nature or people, don't laugh at her, but try to see the beauty yourself.

I think you will enjoy this psalm below. It's from the Bible, written by the director of music of King David. :)

1Lord, you have searched me
and you know me.
2You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.
5You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
7Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths,a you are there.
9If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”
12even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
13For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
17How precious tob me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
19If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
21Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord, and abhor those who rise up against you?
22I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
23Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Amen.

  1. You know what! Your post made me smile. (: This is a beautiful post, really. I'm glad to know a friend who's true to herself.

    I guess I'm lucky meeting people who are awed at the little things in life, I learn a lot from them, and one thing I know is that it made me stay true to myself. (:

  6. Hi Christine! Sorry I haven't been around much, I have been so busy lately! In my course we don't have finals, we have deliveries and assessments every week, so I'm a busy bee, all the time x) I have been reading your e-mails, but maybe because I read the main subject there I don't click on the link to come to the blog... It's bad of me, I know and I'm sorry. I haven't had the time to comment on anyone's blog, don't think it's personal. Anyway, I'll try to come here a bit more often!

    And don't listen to those voices who say the outfit is louder than you. What if it is? It is still an expression of who you are, you shouldn't care about it!

    Wonderful post :) I am, however, going to say that you look absolutely stunning. I agree with what you said about the person inside being the most important but that person comes through on the outside too :)
